First Week at Market!
Last week was my first week selling at Downtown Silver Spring Farmers Market. It was my first week selling for my own business instead of for someone else. It was my first week of really putting myself out there as a farmer and a business owner. It went the way I expected—not too bad. I had some prior experience working at markets for other farms, including at Silver Spring, so I wasn’t too nervous. Did I make mistakes like forgetting the arugula and spinach at home and having to drive back before the market started to get them? Of course. Good thing the market is only 30 minutes away, and I showed up really early. My top employees (Mom and Dad) were there too to help out and learn how to set up and sell. It’s always good to have more than one person at the stand to take over when you need an empanada break. The best part of my day was when a few friends stopped by. Counting the money I made was a very close second.
What I like about Silver Spring markets is that the people who shop there are locals who have lived in the area forever. Almost everyone I’ve met in DC is from somewhere else. And, me being from the county and going to public school (shoutout MCPS), it was fun to talk about how things have changed and how some things have stayed the same. North Bethesda is not a real place! I feel old saying this. Maybe I’ll write on my chalkboard this week, “local guy grows local food”. Thanks FRESHFARM for this opportunity. So stop by Downtown Silver Spring Farmers Market this Saturday (9 am to 1 pm) and every Saturday after that. I’ll be there. Comedians get a discount!
