Dad Got a New Job
Have you seen the guy on the left around the farm?
Working on the fence: on the right is the man himself, on the left is me
Newly retired from his desk job, supposedly. But if you ask him he'll tell you he's found a new job.
If you’ve seen an older man shoveling compost around the farm all day, that’s my Father aka Baba (Farhad Heidarian). He’s the hardest-working man I know. He retired about a month ago from a desk job and wanted something to do. If you ask him, he’ll say he hasn't retired yet; he just found a new job. I think it’s good to be outside doing some physical work after sitting behind a computer for the past ten years.
Usually, kids grow up to work the family farm. In my case, I flipped the script — now my dad works my farm.
Turns out, being close with your family has its perks (beyond the free Sunday dinners). I always knew I wanted to stay close to my parents, but I had no idea my dad would essentially become my most dedicated employee. He shows up, he hustles, and honestly? He's the hardest working guy I know.
He's already tackled replacing the fence mesh — a job I was dreading — after last winter's storm flattened it. Now he's reshaping garden beds. The man is unstoppable.
I'm incredibly grateful... that my 72 year old Dad outworks me on my own farm. As soon as the business grows, I'll bring in some extra hands to handle the heavy lifting. Dad can stick around as long as he wants — though at this rate, I'm not sure who's running this farm anymore.
