Coming to Downtown Silver Spring Farmers Market!
Downtown Silver Spring Farmers Market
Keep Step Farm will be selling at the Downtown Silver Spring Farmers Market starting in mid- May! This will be the first market I’ll be selling at as a farm owner. Over the past few months, I’ve been slowly buying tables, tents, and other supplies I need for the farmers market.
Growing up, I would go to the Kensington and Rockville Farmers Markets with my family to buy plants and vegetables for the coming week. It’s kind of a full circle now that I will have my own stand.
In case you have never been to a farmers market (I’m guessing most of you have). It’s a place where farmers and other producers sell their products. But they are more than just a place to sell, they’re an important part of the community. It’s a place where people can meet up, learn about local food, and keep the money they spend in local agriculture.
Working a farmers market is never easy. I’ll have to wake up at 6, to be there and set up by 7, to be ready by 9. But there are perks.
Did I mention that vendors trade with each other sometimes? It might be my favorite perk of the farmers market. I grow the vegetables, go to market, and trade them for eggs with the vendor two tents over. Now, I have eggs for the week with the vegetables I grew. Maybe money does grow on trees, or maybe on lettuce? Anyways, bring back the trade economy!
The best part, however, is when someone buys my produce that I worked so hard to grow. It’s even better when they come back the next week to tell me that my produce made their salad or dish way better.
This market is about 30 minutes away from the farm and is located in Veterans Plaza next to the Civic Center. It’s a year-round market every Saturday, 9 am- 1 pm. Don’t miss it!
